Coconut Oil for Body and Hair: Where It Helps—and Where It Clogs
Coconut oil is rich in saturated fatty acids that sit on top of the skin and slow water loss. That makes it useful on rough elbows, knees, and heels after a shower, and as a pre-shampoo treatment on thick or very dry hair, where it can reduce breakage during combing.
On the face, its comedogenic potential is real for many people—especially if you are already prone to clogged pores. If you want a facial oil, consider lighter options (for example, squalane or sunflower seed oil) that your skin tolerates better.
For hair, warm a small amount between your palms, work from mid-lengths to ends, and leave fifteen to thirty minutes before shampooing thoroughly. Build up slowly; too much leaves residue even after two washes.
Store solid coconut oil in a cool place. If it melts and re-solidifies, texture changes slightly but performance for home use is usually fine.
Quick tip: Start with half a teaspoon for shoulder-length hair; fine hair often needs less than coarser textures.
